Peer Assessment (28/09/2016)

 Religious and Satanic

1) I like the way it has writing in-between the video to explain whats happening.
2) I like the black and white effect to make it look old.

Improve feedback

1) The writing didn't start with capital letters.
2) The camera was slightly wonky

Peer Assessments

The reason we give peer assessments is because it gives ideas, inspiration and both negative and positive feedback.  Also it gives people different opinions about the work you made. This will help
improve the film maker for next time, only if you take on board the subjective criticism.

The Silent Film

                                                                      My Silent Film

My team and I decided to make a silent film about a thief, who was going to steal a bottle of   water from the canteen and run away with it. We shot in several places, such as the canteen, top floor, the lift and the library. The thief (Ryan) ran to all these places, while doing a silly walk. I think we did very well and had plenty of footage. I then edited this by chopping clips down, transforming it to black and white and adding black bars to the sides of the video. I did this because I wanted it to look old, just like the Charlie Chaplin films. I used a camera fixed to a tripod because I wanted to create the effects of the first silent movies. Also I added some piano piano music from 1900s, which is called 'The Entertainer'. I think the music works very well with the video because it is up beat and comical. I am very pleased with the final outcome, although I would've liked to record Ryan going up the lift, but we couldn't do this because the lift took ages to come down. I have used a SLR camera before, and I've used Premier Pro a few times, but I got the hang of it really quickly. I plan to test my self in the future by working with different people.

Typography

1)

This is the BBC logo. I discovered this image on Google. This lead me to look at BBC shows.

This is the BBC's Sherlock logo. I found this image by looking for BBC programs on the internet.

This is the London Underground logo. I thought this looked similar to the Sherlock font and the BBC. I found this image on Google.

This is the Torchwood logo. I discovered this font after looking for Sherlock, I also found this image on Google.

This is the Hero's logo. I thought it looked very similar to the Torchwood font because of its bold and tall wording.

I thought this looked they similar to the Sherlock font. It is the Harvard business school logo.

2) Whats the difference between a typeface and font?

The difference between a typeface and font is that the font is a digital file that creates the typeface. The typeface is a design of type, what makes up the letters, shapes, style, width and the weight.

3) What is the difference between sans and serif fonts?

The difference between a sans and a serif font is that serifs are little details or decorative flicks at the end of words. Serif fonts don't have these details, example font would be Arial font.

4)

Ascenders are letters that extends above the mean line of the font.

Descenders are letters that drop down below the baseline of the font.

The X height are letters that stay in the middle of the mean line and the base line.

Serifs are letters with decorative strokes and flicks.

UPPER CASE - Upper case letters are letters that are capitalised.
lower case - Lower case are letters that are smaller than capital letters.

With point size you can control the different size of your letters. Larger or smaller.

Ligature are two or more words that join together.

Baseline letters all sit on the line (baseline)

5)

6)
The difference between kerning and tracking is two related and frequently confused typographical terms. Both refer to the adjustment of space between characters of type.

7)

In typography leading refers to the distance between the baseline of type.

8) What is a Grid?

A grid is a structure, usually made up of vertical, horizontal and angular lines. Grids can be used to store information, pictures and numbers. I think its very organised and makes thinks look neat and tidy.  In typography a grid is used to subdivide a page vertically and horizontally into margins, columns, inter-column spaces, lines of type, and spaces between blocks of type and images.
These subdivisions form the basis of a modular and systematic approach to the layout, making the design process faster, and ensuring visual consistency. Grids were not talked about until the mid-twentieth century. Artists, printers, and writers hadn’t thought about content proportion and space before now.

Silent Movies

Styles and convention of silent film

The silent film era lasted from 1894 to 1929. Silent films don't use sound because of the technical difficulties they had synchronising the audio and film. Film and recorded sound came about in the same era.

The actors exaggerated facial expressions and gestures to get the point across to the audience. They also exaggerated their body language to emphasise what they were trying to say. Scenes with moving vehicles and trains would terrify the audience and give them the shock of their lives as many people experienced cinema for the first time and thought the vehicles and trains would actually hit them.

They couldn't move the camera because they didn't have the understanding of camera technology at that time in history, so early in film production.

Cinema/silent film made actors for the first time famous around the world, as ordinary people could go and watch people like Charlie Chaplin, and actors would become household names.

In smaller cinema's with less space they would have a pianist or an organist playing in the corner. In a larger cinema with more open space with a stage, they would have a full orchestra playing. They put music over the top to make it have its own atmosphere and meaning, also to get across different emotions.

My name is Lyndon Coleman. I am 19 years old. I'm a huge fan of the British TV show 'Doctor Who'. I have many favourite Doctors, but my most favourite is the 11th Doctor played by Matt Smith. He played the Doctor for 4 years, 2010-2013.
